“Girl Up” with Audrey Guinn on Tuneful Tuesday

A fun benefit of being the CMN blog editor is that I get to learn about new music and new musicians.  So, on the first tuneful Tuesday of the year, it’s time to share this musical debut by 9 year old Audrey Guinn co-written with her father, Charlie Stephenson.  But rather than just posting this song for you today, I would like to invite all our CMN blog readers to help me make a list of all the songs you know that empower girls and boys to be the people they want to be.  Please share titles, artists and links (if appropriate) in the comments below.  Looking forward to what’s in store for us all in 2018.

LOS ANGELES, CA –

The latest woman to speak up on behalf of women everywhere shares a bunk bed with her sister and routinely reads Diary of a Wimpy Kid well past her bedtime.

Nine-year-old singer/songwriter/performer Audrey Guinn just released her girl-empowerment pop anthem, Girl Up. Co-written with her dad, Charlie Stephenson, an award-winning Creative Director, Girl Up was recorded to inspire girls of all ages to never let anything stop them from achieving their dreams.

The song has a strong female-driven production. It was mixed by award-winning female engineer and producer, Daniela Rivera (Rihanna, Demi Lovato, Kylie Minogue, Selena Gomez). The anthem features renowned St. Petersburg classical violinist Maria Grigoryeva. And for the song’s dynamic conclusion, Audrey is joined by girls / choir peers from the Southern California Children’s Chorus.

“Girl Up” | Audrey Guinn

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na!

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na!

My momma told me

I can be

Anything that I wanna be

And my daddy told me

Take my dreams

Turn them in to reality

‘Cause I got everything I need

To be anything I want

Whoa! Whoa!

So if they try to tell me stop

Then I just go, go, go

Gotta be like Rosa

Let them know ya

Never ever gonna give up

Girl Up

And get down

Show ’em what you got

Turn their heads around

Never give up

Or back down

If you wanna fly

Gotta stand your ground

Girl up

And get down

‘Cause you’re so unstoppable

Undeniable

Nothing’s gonna stop you now

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na!

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na!

Grandmomma told me

I can change

Anything that I wanna change

Granddaddy told me

Don’t you wait

Make the most

Outta every day

‘Cause I got everything I need

To do anything I want

Whoa! Whoa!

And if they tell you that you can’t

Tell ’em to watch and learn

Gotta be like Hepburn

It’s your turn

Never ever gonna give up

Girl Up

And get down

Show ’em what you got

Turn their heads around

Never give up

Or back down

If you wanna fly

Gotta stand your ground

Girl up

And get down

‘Cause you’re so unstoppable

Undeniable

Nothing’s gonna stop you now

So I’m telling you, sister

Make your move

Show em all

What you can do

Don’t have to be perfect,

It’s true

All you gotta be

Is you

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na!

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na!

Girl Up

And get down

Show ’em what you got

Turn their heads around

Never give up

Or back down

If you wanna fly

Gotta stand your ground

Girl up

And get down

‘Cause you’re so unstoppable

Undeniable

Nothing’s gonna stop you now
