“Planting Seeds of Love” by Pam Donkin on Tuneful Tuesdays

Today’s song was submitted by long time CMN member Pam Donkin just in time for Mother’s Day! Pam Donkin, a former CMN Board of Directors member, has been a singer/songwriter in children’s music since 1983 and has three recordings for families. She also serves as the Music Together Director in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is a perfect song to sing to Mother’s for Mother’s Day, Father’s on Father’s Day or favorite teacher at the end of school! Pam says she loves to use it as a closing song in her shows or as a lullaby in her parent/child music class. “It’s so touching to see parents singing it to their child!”, she exclaims.

Let’s take a listen:

“Planting Seeds of Love”

Lyrics and  Music by Pam Donkin

I am planting seeds of love in my heart

I am planting seeds of love in my heart

And as they grow, I’ll take them everywhere I go

I am planting seeds of love in my heart

Chorus:

And as they grow (repeat) They overflow (repeat)

In every part (repeat) Of my heart (repeat)

Heart to heart (repeat) Friend to friend (repeat)

Sing it out again!

I am planting seeds of peace in my heart

I am planting seeds of peace in my heart

And as they grow, I’ll take them everywhere I go

I am planting seeds of peace in my heart

Chorus:

And as they grow (repeat) They overflow (repeat)

In every part (repeat) Of my heart (repeat)

Heart to heart (repeat) Friend to friend (repeat)

Sing it out again!

I am planting seeds of song in my heart

I am planting seeds of song in my heart

And as they grow, I’ll take them everywhere I go

I am planting seeds of song in my heart

Chorus:

And as they grow (repeat) They overflow (repeat)

In every part (repeat) Of my heart (repeat)

Heart to heart (repeat) Friend to friend (repeat)

Sing it out again!

I am planting seeds of love in my heart

I am planting seeds of love in my heart

And as they grow, I’ll take them everywhere I go

I am planting seeds of love in my heart

“Planting Seeds of Love” is written as a zipper song that has several options for zippering. Pam’s favorite version is to change the lyric:

“I am planting seeds of love in my heart”

to

“I am planting seeds of love in your heart, you are planting seeds of love in my heart!”

Pam recommends that the leader starts singing the verses; and then asks the kids to join in once they can. When you get to the chorus ask the children echo the lyrics. They can also zip in other words such as “I am planting seeds of love in my school, home, world etc.”. For an enrichment activity, she recommends making a “Planting Seeds of Love” book. Another idea is to get seed paper hearts, and have the children write their special word such as love, joy, peace etc. on it and plant them in the school garden.
