Raindrops by Harmonica Pocket on Tuneful Tuesday

Today’s song is perfect for the rainy season! It comes from member Keeth Apgar of Harmonica Pocket.

raindrops

This song’s story…
Since moving to Seattle in 1997 I have written a growing stack of songs about the rain. It really does rain a lot out in this corner of the country. One year it rained everyday for 100 days straight! That was crazy.

Put a kid next to a puddle and they jump in it. They’re so in the moment they don’t even care if they have the right shoes on. They jump and splash in the thing because it’s there and because they’re alive. It’s a celebration. It’s a beautiful thing that most grown-ups including me have lost touch with.

In addition to being solar powered we catch rainwater off the roof of our recording studio. When it rains our rain tanks are filling up and that puts a whole new twist on raindrops.

Raindrops
Won’t stop
So let’s
Get wet
We’ll dry off someday
It’s just water anyway

Raindrops on my head
The clouds are full of tiny holes
The world is getting wet
But I’m dry on my umbrella stroll

Raindrops small at first
Warm and wet and falling down
On flowers bent in thirst
Puddles gather on the ground

Raindrops
Won’t stop
So let’s
Get wet
We’ll dry off someday
It’s just water anyway

Wearing my rain boots
Raincoat and my rubber pants
I’m almost waterproof
All dressed up for my rain dance

Raindrops
Won’t stop
So let’s
Get wet
We’ll dry off someday
It’s just water anyway

I was born in Seattle and I still remember Smile Week, when we were all supposed to remember that life is good despite the constant rain! (I moved from Seattle to the NE and then across the world to the Middle East where it only rained from Nov – March, and we celebrated the rain…I LOVE RAIN!
