Keep Your Hands Off It by Sarah Gardner on Tuneful Tuesday

This useful song about boundaries comes from member Sarah Gardner.

From Sarah:

I wrote these boundary-stating lyrics for kids to get on their own level, and adults on another. It’s a simple blues. Crowds can repeat the title line. Its also nice because I can play it class, then sing at a jazz club when the band asks me to come up and do something from my cd. (Telling the musicians it’s just a sassy 12 bar blues puts everyone at ease and then they sass it up! )

You know this toy is mine
mine all mine
love the way it moves
How it shimmers and shines
Just Keep your hands off it, keep your hands off it,
Just keep your hands off it Cause it don’t belong to you

you gotta bad bad game
I don’t wanna to play
never know what you want,
till you want to take it from me
Just Keep your hands off it, keep your hands off it,
Just keep your hands off it Cause it don’t belong to you

Why can’t you understand
grabbing is just plain rude
go on get your own
and drop this attitude
Just Keep your hands off it, keep your hands off it,
Just keep your hands off it Cause it don’t belong to you

I don’t care if you cry,
I don’t care if you’re blue
You can take your precious tears
all the way to Timbuktu
Just Keep your hands off it, keep your hands off it,
Just keep your hands off it Cause it don’t belong to you

Just Keep your hands off it, because it don’t, it never did, and it never ever will belong to you.
That’s right.
