Crazy Idea by Chibi Kodama on Tuneful Tuesday

This hopeful song with it’s positive message comes from new member John Cullimore of Chibi Kodama.

This song came from some very frustrating discourse between myself and some co-workers who greatly disagree on politics, life and spirituality. We had this heated debate, and it bugged me the more I stepped back from it. We grown-ups get together and act as though our heated arguments will fix it for once and for all, but it doesn’t. Sometimes it can help, but often, it can simply spread dissension and hatred if we’re not careful.

It’s good to discuss. It’s valuable to have intelligent discourse. It is not helpful to believe that we’re right, and everyone is our enemy.

So I sat down to try to think about the Golden Rule. It’s nuts. It’s insane. It puts our defenses down. Logically, it can seem like the most ridiculous idea ever because, if applied to every area of our lives, it dismantles power structures and military might, and turns us into loving children.

You have to think like a child to believe in the golden rule. In that sweet, beautiful simplicity, that crazy idea, you can see that, “Wow, if we all treated each other the way we want to be treated then maybe this world would work.”

So, the song took off from there on a sunny afternoon lunch hiding behind our warehouse thinking about how a child’s crazy idea can fix our broken, hurting world.

I’ve got this crazy idea that I could change the world
If only i would care about you as much as I care about me
If you look out for me, and I look out for you
Then I don’t think there’s anything that we can’t get through

Grownups like to talk about the ways they can fix it all
but sometimes little ones just know the best
if we convince our friends to take some to try this
I believe this plan can pass the test

We’ve got this crazy idea that we can change the world
If only I would care about you as much as I care about me
If you look out for me, and I look out for you
Then I don’t think that there’s anything we can’t get through

Grownups like to talk about the ways they can make things right
but sometimes little ones have better sight
if we convince our friends to take some to try
I think that we all could understand why

treat your friends like you want to be treated
treat your enemies the same
This is how all the darkness is defeated
And the world will never ever be the same
