School’s Out by Marla Lewis on Tuneful Tuesday

This jaunty tune comes from member Marla Lewis, the title says it all!

Marla-Gibson

From Marla:

I wrote this song with a fourth grade class last year. They were very excited about writing a song but didn’t know what to write about. When the topic of summer vacation came up, they were ecstatic! (duh) The idea of waking up and suddenly remembering we didn’t have to go to school for two months came from the teacher. That idea was so compelling, the class and I took off on it! On this final version, the West Los Angeles Children’s Choir is singing.

School’s Out!

One Monday morning I woke from a dream

I lay there watching the sunbeams

And then I noticed the clock by my bed

I screamed, “I’ll be late!”

But wait!

I just remembered that

School’s Out!  School’s out!

It’s the first day of summer and School’s out!

No homework for me!

I’m totally free!

Woo-hoo and whoopee!

‘Yeah, School’s out!

I threw my clothes on, and gulped down some juice

I packed a towel and a swimsuit

Jumped on my bike, met some friends at the pool

We slid down the slide

And dived

And celebrated ‘cause

School’s Out!  School’s out!

It’s the first day of summer and School’s out!

No homework for me!

I’m totally free!

Woo-hoo and whoopee!

‘Yeah, School’s out!

Watermelon

Water balloons

We beg you, summer

Don’t end too soon!
