The story of the unstoppable bear:

“My Teddy Bear” was written as a love song to an ancient but unstoppable little bear who has lived with the Battersby’s for 4 generations and intends even though he is a little banged up nowadays to stay with us for 4 more generations…at least…..! We wrote this song in 1984 for our daughter. It has been loved by millions of young children ever since and has been played on YouTube over 200,000 times.

Right after the birth of our daughter (Shanny) my parents flew over to the US from the UK to meet their new granddaughter. They gave her a teddy bear that had belonged to my mother as a little girl back in the 1920’s. “Teddy” was considerably worse for wear having survived World War 2 and my 2 brothers tug o’wars over a period of 60 years but had been part of the “family” and incredibly well loved, so it was with great joy that he became part of Shanny’s development and security. Everywhere Shanny went, Teddy went too. He was the most beloved Bear of all time,  so it was with a sense of great happiness that when our granddaughter was born that our daughter passed stewardship of Teddy on to Kirsty her daughter,(our granddaughter) who will I am sure pass him on to her son or daughter when it’s time.

Oh my Teddy Bear. May be very old…

May just have one eye, but he belongs to me.

Oh my Teddy Bear…well he talks to me.

And he tells me things that only good friends do.

Chorus.

And he’s lived with me for always,

And I know he always will;

And he hugs me when I’m feeling kind of down.

Well I’ve never seen him mad,

No I’ve never seen him frown.

I’m so glad my Teddy Bear’s around.

Verse 2.

Oh my Teddy Bear…well he dreams with me.

Watches sunlight dance upon my bedroom wall.

Chorus

And he’s lived with me for always,

And I know he always will;

And he hugs me when I’m feeling kind of down.

Well I’ve never seen him mad,

No I’ve never seen him frown.

I’m so glad my Teddy Bear’s around.
