So, full disclosure: I have punk roots. Okay. I was practically fully formed when I grafted myself into punk, but still. When I was in high school, I would go out once a month to this all ages club where everyone tried to look cool and act apathetic before hipsterism was a thing. But when this song came on, all bets were off. Some angsty teens stood in a corner, mocking, but I was all up in it and to this day this song plays forever in some inspired part of my brain. The Toy Dolls give us a tune about an elephant named Nellie who broke out of the traveling circus and ran away to freedom.  It embodies most things I love in a nutshell – whimsy, playfulness, dancing, freedom, compassion, defiance, a good story, and punk.
So choose a corner if you must, but I recommend that for this Throwback Thursday, abandon all convention, get up, and dance

  1. I’m usually not a fan of punk but this was FUN!!!!! Does that make it FUNK?

The lyrics were a little hard to understand; does anyone have them written down as I’d love to see them.

  2. I remember this.
    A most excellent choice!
