Partner Spotlight: American Camp Association

The Children’s Music Network is honored and grateful for the support of our wonderful Business Sponsors and Non-Profit Partners. This series is meant to shed a little more light on what they do. Today’s Partners are the American Camp Association.

1.    What is your mission?

The American Camp Association (ACA) is a community of camp professionals who, for over 100 years, have joined together to share our knowledge and experience to ensure the quality of camp programs. Because of our diverse, 9,000+ membership and our exceptional programs, children, youth, and adults have the opportunity to learn powerful lessons in community, character-building, skill development, and healthy living — lessons that can be learned nowhere else.

2.    How do you apply it practically?

We host a variety training programs and classes that connect professionals and experts in the field with camp directors and staff. We also have volunteers visiting ACA-accredited camps for inspections to make sure they are meeting the high standards set by our organization. We also help promote the camp experience, and our goal is to make sure that every child has the chance to experience camp.

3.    Why did you choose to partner with CMN?

ACA and CMN have an educational alliance because we understand that camp provides the perfect opportunity for children to develop a life-long love of music. Connecting camp leaders and staff to the resources provided by CMN will ensure that the strong tradition of campfire songs and musical activities continues long into the future.

 4.    What song from your own childhood do you still sing regularly?

Some of our favorite childhood memories include singing songs around the campfire. Home on the Range is one of our favorites simply because a lot of camp experiences happen close to nature, and camp becomes like a second home. “Where seldom is heard, a discouraging word, and the skies are not cloudy all day,” sums up why we look forward to camp season every year.

5.    What is your official dance move?

The Hokey-Pokey is one of our favorites because it leaves no excuse not to dance… and that’s what it’s all about!
