The Children’s Music Network is honored and grateful for the support of our wonderful Business Sponsors and Non-Profit Partners. This series is meant to shed a little more light on what they do. Today’s sponsor is Illinois based Nibble’s Promotional Solutions.
What is your mission?
Nibbles Promotional Solution’s mission is to provide administrative and marketing services to performers providing family-friendly entertainment at a wide variety of venues so that the performers can focus on development their creative talents.
How do you apply it practically?
We assist performers by helping them develop a strategic plan for their business, assisting them through the steps of establishing a legal business structure, connect them with needed resources such as accounting services, legal services and more; develop online presence through websites, social media, and online directory/booking services. We also provide booking services if performers do not want to do this process. We are developing mailing lists, contacts with event organizers and do additional networking so we can promote performers to their appropriate audiences. We plan to have a presence at the Chicagoland area showcases for schools/libraries; the Illinois conference for camp associations and the Illinois AEYC so we can promote performers at those events that can be too expensive for performers to participate in on their own.
Why did you choose to partner with CMN?
When creating my previous business, Nibbles Play Café, I joined CMN because I was interested in providing music to children and their families at the café. I helped organize the first National gathering in Zion, and although it was a lot of work – I really enjoyed getting to know the musicians at CMN. I heard and read on the listserv how frustrated performers can get when having to deal with the “business” end of being a performer. As I planned Nibbles Play Café and then opened, I learned a lot about running a business, marketing, promotion. I also learned how frustrating those tasks are and how they can get in the way of enjoying the fun part of your business which is interacting with the families and their children. I feel strongly that children need music in their lives and that they benefit greatly from interactive, live performance. I’m not a great performer myself (though I’m pretty good playing the piano alone in my own house!) but I am a good administrator and I think I can help other performers connect with more children by assisting performers with growing their businesses. CMN is the perfect organization for me to connect with children’s performers who have similar values to mine.
What song from your own childhood do you still sing regularly?
There are two songs that I loved to sing to my kids when they are little and that they get to roll their eyes at now that they are teenagers: “You are my Sunshine” and “Skinamarinky Dinky Dink”. Because I tend to spend a lot of time with Carole Stephens – “Stinky Cake” floats around in my head sometimes.
What is your official dance move?
My teenage children have asked me not to dance, but I do a mean Hokey Pokey whenever I hear it!
