I must have played this song literally 10,000 times over the years. All I need to do is sing “Clap Your Hands” with a little enthusiasm and the children do all the motions as if by magic. Every age group from babies up to early elementary join right in as if they already know the song. It works at big concerts and in small classrooms. I believe that “Clap Your Hands” is the hands down best-kept-secret action-song on the planet! I often add the verses “Jump, jump, jump up high,” and “Dance, dance, dance, around” to Pete’s definitive version in the video. This song should be in every children’s musician’s repertoire! Please let me know how well it works for you in the comments.

  1. This is a great classic for Throwback Thursdays. So simple, and that is what children love – Simple and fun. Thanks, Wayne.

  2. I never use this song in this form (Old Joe Clark). What have I been thinking???? Thanks for sharing it and reminding us once again of Pete’s loveliness and simplicity. xo
